The World Health Organization (WHO) says 66,000 people die every year in TB. That means that every day, 180 people died of tuberculosis in the country.This information was given on Thursday at the National Press Club, jointly by the Health Ministry's National Tuberculosis Control Program and BRAC. This press conference was organized on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day.
National Tuberculosis Control Program's medical officer Nazis Arefin said at the press conference that tuberculosis in the country is still a public health problem. Quoting the World Health Organization's latest report, he said that in 2016, deaths of 66 thousand people in Bangladesh due to tuberculosis And the number of newly infected germs is 360,000.
He also said that the World Health Organization has prepared a list of countries that are more likely to develop tuberculosis and drug-resistant TB. Bangladesh has two names in the list.
