The death penalty has decreased all over the world

According to Amnesty International's annual report, the rate of death penalty decreased in the world in 2017 compared to 2016.

Even the number of executioners decreased.Amnesty International says last year 923 death sentences were awarded. This number is much higher but 4 percent less than the year 2016.Responding to a question about this, Olayatosin Popula, Amnesty International's highest punishment expert, says many proceedings have been postponed. The countries where the highest number of executions were awarded death penalty in 2017. According to Amnesty, this rate is 11 percent more than the previous year in Iran and 31 percent less in Pakistan. In Saudi Arabia, death rate has also declined.Popula thinks that the main reason for the reduction in the death penalty in three countries is that of some reasons. According to him, reconstruction of the judicial system in Iran has played a role in reducing the death penalty for trial of drug related crimes. However, it is difficult to explain the real reasons of decreasing the rate in Saudi and Pakistan.
