Bangladesh-India meeting with transit protocol next month

Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade (PIWTT) will be held in high-level talks between Bangladesh and India next month.

An official confirmed that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) between the two countries will be finalized. News Economic Times.India's internal waterways authority's Vice Chairman Prabir Pandey said, "When the two countries arrive at a consensus on different issues, trade in Kolkata will increase in the North Eastern Province and inland waterways in Bangladesh."

Prabir Pandey further said that there will be a meeting in the next month. The official did not say anything yet. The two countries will try to finalize the issues that will be discussed in the two countries.

The two countries agreed to expand the Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade (PIWT) agreement signed in 1972.

The National Waterway One (NW-1) will connect the Northeast to the Indo-Bangla Protocol route. This will reduce the distance of about 17 hundred kilometers. This route will open new possibilities for trade for Bangladesh. Specifically, Haldia port and Chittagong port of Bangladesh will be expanding in direct trade, said Prabir Pandey.
