Counsel for continuing supplementary duty for motorcycle production

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Mashto Watanabe has advised to continue supplementary duty for motorcycle production.

He said, due to the determination of the industrial-friendly tariff structure through the SRO issued by the last fiscal year, the motorcycle manufacturing industry in Bangladesh is being developed gradually. Due to the 20 percent supplementary duty in the industrial sector, motorcycle production companies have already expanded and increased employment. If this trend continues, the rapid progressive manufacturing industry will be developed.During the meeting with Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at the Ministry of Industries, he said this.Japan's Ambassador said that Japan has always given priority to development of Bangladesh. Japan's support will continue to strengthen the standard of industrialization in Bangladesh. At the time, he mentioned the notification issued by the National Board of Revenue on June 1, 2017, imposing 45 percent supplementary duty and this would hamper the growth of the motorcycle manufacturing sector in Bangladesh.
